Testimonials are, in many ways, a great deal like case
studies. A case study is designed to present an issue or
challenge, to show how the problem was addressed, and then
to highlight the results. Great testimonials also consist of
those three elements. Let's have a look at them one at a time.

1) The Challenge

What situation was the person encountering and why hadn't
they fixed their problem?

Here is an example of an issue for a weight-loss nutritional
supplement testimonial. "I was 100 pounds overweight and
seeking to lose weight. Though I had attempted more than a
dozen diets, I 'd been unsuccessful. I instead gained weight!".

2) The Resolution.

The resolution is where the customer simply states how your
product or service improved their life. How did it solve
their problem? This is also an ideal place to measure the
results. Results are typically more powerful when they can
be quantified.

Here is an example of a resolution or the middle component of
your testimonial.

"ABC Nutritionals changed everything. One basic natural
treatment and my metabolism started moving faster. It affects
trace minerals in your body-- minerals required for excellent
health and a speedy metabolism. Once I began slimming down,
dieting and physical activity began to work quicker. I lost
more than ten lbs a month and over 96 pounds in total.".

3) Conclusion.

In the conclusion you'll use emotion to truly persuade the
reader. How has this favorable outcome made your life better
or easier? How did this success make you feel?

"With ABC vitamin supplement, losing weight was not a battle.
I lost 110 pounds and I feel more healthy than ever. My
doctor says I'm in the very best shape I have ever been. I
wish I had known about ABC years ago but I'm glad I uncovered
it when I did.".

Encouraging Your Customers to Develop Testimonials Like These.

Sure, it is easy to see why testimonials with these 3 core
elements succeed. But how do you motivate your clients to
prepare their testimonials in this potent style? It is not
easy. Many customers do not understand how to write an
effective testimonial. They most likely want to write one
for you but chances are they just don't know how.

Prepare it for them! One of the easiest ways to make your
customer's life much easier and to make sure you get the
testimonial you need is to craft one for them. For instance,
you might design a folder with 3 to 5 different testimonials
in it. Your customer can select the one they choose, make
any changes they want, and sign it. You may be amazed how
many customers appreciate this convenience.

Develop a template. Another way to achieve the same thing is
to create a template testimonial. Your customer can fill in
the blanks and make changes to the template as they see fit.
It gives them a little more control over the testimonial but
still helps ensure you get the content you need.

Last but not least, if you acquire a testimonial from a
customer and it doesn't quite fit your needs, you can ask a
few questions like, "Can you tell me how you were coping
with the issue before you came to me?" and "How did you feel
once you 'd tried our product/service?" You can then just
ask if you can add that information to the testimonial. Make
sure to obtain their approval before you publish it.

Testimonials are fundamental tools to help encourage, build
trustworthiness, and empower your brand. Make your
testimonials strong ones with these three core elements
of testimonials.
