Are you doing research on how to choose and set up a new <br />
domain name? I have several websites and this is a regular <br />
process for me but I realize this may be your first website <br />
and you are struggling with this important decision.<br />
<br />
First you must determine what is your site going to be about, <br />
what is your niche?<br />
<br />
Perhaps your are starting a business online for profit selling <br />
your own products or maybe you are an affiliate of other <br />
companies, promoting their products for a commission.<br />
<br />
Perhaps you are starting a blog to keep in touch with your <br />
family and friends.<br />
<br />
Whatever your purpose the process of researching for the best <br />
domain name is usually the same.<br />
<br />
Step One is to determine what your site will be about. For <br />
example, I am an avid coin collector and when choosing a <br />
domain name I would try to find an available name that <br />
relates to coins or coin collecting.<br />
<br />
If you want to establish yourself as an authority in network <br />
marketing, you may want to use your name as your domain name. <br />
While this is certainly unique I should warn you that if <br />
there might be a chance in the future that you might decide <br />
to drop this site and give up the domain yourname.com, this <br />
domain name can be picked up by anyone that wants to pay the <br />
registrar the yearly registration fee.<br />
<br />
I mention this because it has happened to me. I had a <br />
business website and when I sold the business to a buyer <br />
who did not choose to continue using the corporation name <br />
of my business, I just did not renew the domain name. Later <br />
I typed in the url of the website and WOW up comes a porn <br />
site. So be very careful when using yourname.com.<br />
<br />
If network maketing is your niche you might want to use <br />
"workingwithyourname.com" or "workwith....com", using your <br />
first name only. You get the idea. If you later give up the <br />
domain name it would be harder for anyone to connect those <br />
names with you personally. Then again you might like to <br />
have a porn site connected with your name...NOT!<br />
<br />
If your main purpose for choosing a domain name is to produce <br />
an income you will need to monetize your new site. What <br />
keywords are searchers typing in when looking for your <br />
products, affiliate products or networking tips and <br />
information.? You can find this out by going to the "King" of <br />
the search engines - Google. Google has the best information <br />
to help you with this step.<br />
<br />
In my "coins" domain name example above, I researched the <br />
keywords coin, coins, coin collecting, graded coins, <br />
numismatics, etc. You can see that the word "coins" has <br />
many searches. If I could have gotten coins.com, imagine <br />
how may searchers would have found my site on the first page <br />
of Google..assuming I did all my other SEO techniques correctly.<br />
<br />
Once you have several choices for a domain name you can <br />
proceed to check for the availability of your choices and <br />
if available, purchase a domain name for your website.<br />
<br />
Choose your name only after careful thought, trying to insure <br />
that the name you ultimately choose is relevant to the subject <br />
nature of the site you will be building. Search engines will <br />
reward you for a carefully chosen domain name, so do a little <br />
research before haphazardly chosing a name just because it <br />
"sounds good." Revelance is paramount.<br />
