As an Internet marketer, one of the toughest decisions you'll <br />
have to make is what products to market and where to position <br />
yourself in the marketplace. Market something that is not <br />
really wanted, or painfully needed, and you've stacked the <br />
deck against yourself. <br />
<br />
As a 13-year Internet marketing veteran, I have largely settled <br />
into the traffic generation and search engine optimization fields. <br />
Everyone with a website needs both, and they're all painfully <br />
aware of that fact. <br />
<br />
This is a good field for you to enter if you really take the <br />
time to learn how to get a webpage to rank highly for buying <br />
keywords, and how to generate lots of traffic. Neither are <br />
really THAT difficult, as you'll soon see. <br />
<br />
If you plan on selling your services in this niche, you need <br />
to master the basics, and it helps to be able to show potential <br />
clients how good you are. I personally just show clients how I <br />
rank for some of my own website projects. I do that for two reasons: <br />
<br />
1) I want to show them that I don't really need to work as an <br />
SEO consultant since I could earn a full-time living just <br />
marketing my own products. Not coming from a position of <br />
neediness allows me to charge higher prices. <br />
<br />
2) I want to show them that I understand the entire sales process, <br />
and know what it takes to bring in BUYING customers. <br />
<br />
Here are a few examples that I might show a typical client (all <br />
of the examples are the terms without the quotes): <br />
<br />
One of my companies sells automated article, video, press release <br />
and podcast submission services. So I show potential clients that<br />
 for the term "automated video submission site" I rank number 2 <br />
out of 1,020,000 on Google, and for the term "automated video <br />
submission software" I rank number 1 out of 192,000 on Google." <br />
<br />
I show them that for the term "number 1 google listing" I rank <br />
numbers 5 and 6 out of 109,000,000 on Google. For "get a number <br />
1 google listing" I have the number 3 position on Google. <br />
<br />
Since many potential clients know that I've worked as a joint <br />
venture broker, I show them that for the term "joint venture <br />
expert" I have at least 5 out of the top 10 positions on Google, <br />
out of 2,870,000 returns. <br />
<br />
Since I've written a soul food cookbook, I show them that for <br />
the term "soul food recipes" I have the number 2 position out <br />
of 2,510,000 results. For the term "soul food cookbook" I have <br />
the number 2 position out of 58,900,000 returns. <br />
<br />
I show potential clients dozens of similar results, providing <br />
them with irrefutable proof that I understand SEO. I also show <br />
them some of my website traffic statistics to prove to them that <br />
I target BUYING" keywords. <br />
<br />
By now you have to be wondering how I accomplish this. The answer <br />
is simply by generating lots of relevant content, and having lots <br />
of external links pointing to my sites. <br />
<br />
Really simple isn't it? <br />
<br />
The content is typically articles, press releases, podcasts <br />
(audios), and videos. This content is both on my sites and on <br />
other sites. For my cooking related sites, the content is <br />
typically recipes, but with webpages optimized to help the <br />
search engines know what a specific page is about. <br />
<br />
Briefly, in optimizing a webpage, I make sure that my most <br />
important keywords are use in my titles, description metatags, <br />
and in strategic places throughout the page. <br />
<br />
In my opinion, the reason that my pages rank so highly though <br />
is because others page (on other websites across the Internet) <br />
tell the search engines that my pages are about specific terms. <br />
I accomplish this by getting tons of hyperlinks from other <br />
sites, where the anchor text contains my long-tail keywords. <br />
<br />
I get those links by posting my content on those other sites. <br />
My articles, videos, press releases, and audios are on high <br />
pagerank sites, and there are links in or near this content <br />
pointing back to my sites. <br />
<br />
Those links amount to those other sites pointing to my site and <br />
telling the search engines that my site is about those keywords. <br />
Those links from "authority sites" are like having well-respected <br />
people give you an endorsement! <br />
<br />
Just as importantly, those hyperlink "recommend" my sites to <br />
visitors on those other sites. They tell those visitors to go <br />
to my site for more similar content, and those visitors come <br />
in droves! <br />
<br />
In case you're wondering how I spread so much content across so <br />
many sites, my answer is automation. Instead of visiting hundreds <br />
of sites and hand posting this content, I upload it to software <br />
(or more specifically servers on other sites) and automate the <br />
distribution process. Using software, I can do in 10 minutes what <br />
it would literally take me days to do manually. <br />
<br />
When I tell you what I do, and how I do it, it sounds really <br />
simple doesn't it? <br />
<br />
It is! <br />
<br />
However, there is another key. In many niches, when going after <br />
certain keywords, you need to publish a LOT of content, and you <br />
need a LOT of links pointing to you. That's why the software is <br />
so critical. Without automation I wouldn't be able to accomplish <br />
1/10th as much. I wouldn't be able to generate the necessary mass. <br />
<br />
I know, now you're probably thinking that my traffic generation <br />
secrets aren't so amazing. Actually, they're not, but they are <br />
very effective. That is, they are very effective if you acknowledge <br />
one other important caveat. That caveat is simply that you have <br />
to use this knowledge. You have to actually generate the content a<br />
nd then distribute it around the Internet. <br />
<br />
Now that you know my secret, you need to take advantage of it. <br />
Don't you dare think that it won't do much good "because your <br />
competitors will also know the secret." Here's another not so <br />
secret "secret"... most people even when they know exactly what <br />
to do, and even see proof that it works, will do absolutely nothing. <br />
hat's the beauty of it all. To pull ahead of your competitors, <br />
you only need to do it! <br />
