Quite recently, there was mayhem when top ranking websites <br />
suddenly lost their rankings, resulting in a considerable <br />
dip in traffic. To sum it up, Google SERPS began to display <br />
unacceptable websites with broken links, spammy content, <br />
and you name it. It's nothing like what we can accept from <br />
Google. <br />
<br />
Google couldn't have chosen a better time to bring a bug <br />
into their system. Together with the economic meltdown, <br />
it was serious concern for webmasters. Well, they admitted <br />
that it was a bug in their algorithm that went away unnoticed <br />
and causing this huge shift in rankings. However, it's all <br />
sorted now, and things are back to normal. <br />
<br />
But what is the whole point of this exercise? Some claim that <br />
Google have been testing some interesting algorithm updates, <br />
and would like to keep them under the wraps. Whatever the <br />
truth is, we need to know that there is an interesting concept <br />
around this whole exercise. <br />
<br />
Not all websites did lose rankings. If we take a close look, <br />
only the ones that were SE optimized did face penalties. Yes, <br />
I would like to call this a temporary penalty; however the <br />
reach was by far very immense and extreme that the Engineers <br />
at Google had to come up with a Plan B! With PubCon conference <br />
just a few days down the road, Google will try to get as much <br />
feedback as possible. <br />
<br />
Now, if anyone asks me "How do I stay away from these <br />
penalties?" or "How do I make my website an authentic <br />
website?" I wouldn't honestly have any answer. These are <br />
easy questions one could ask, but the answer can be quite <br />
complex. Take the case of a government auction website <br />
that falls under ecommerce category. Can you make a similar <br />
one under a private corporation and still receive enough <br />
Google juice to be competing with the parent website? <br />
Hmmm... Pretty tough question, right? <br />
<br />
There is one important aspect that everyone can follow, <br />
that will provide them with some success. Have you ever <br />
thought that quality traffic and conversions never come <br />
for free? What if there were legitimate Search Engine <br />
traffic from Google and Yahoo, if you could pay for it? <br />
Yes, it will be pretty awesome, right? The best part is, <br />
since you pay for this traffic, you will not be subjected <br />
to organic ranking shifts and you can keep getting traffic <br />
and customers, even if your website traffic reduces <br />
radically from the organic listings. For me, this is <br />
the way to move forward. At least, it will help me pay <br />
my bills! <br />
